Hello!
Welcome to Wednesday Wishes. This week we have an immersive David Hockney, Fashion and Augmented reality and really big paintings of London. My favourite this week is Mike Nelson: Extinction Beckons at the Hayward installation art that is both interactive and thought provoking. Whilst sitting on the train I have been sailing the Mediterranean courtesy of Shadow of Perseus by Claire Heywood.
Helen Sharman was the first British astronaut to travel into space. I must admit that I had always assumed that she was a career astronaut. Are there career astronauts? Why was that not a suggestion ever made to me? I’d have made a far better astronaut than say a teacher which was suggested. Anyway turns out that she responded to a radio advert seeking “Astronaut wanted, no experience necessary”. Her story is told in a play on at the Vault Festival in London next week March 14 - 17 if you fancy learning more.
I’m seldom able to resist visiting a church. Often the oldest buildings around, they are not only beautiful but often have great stories to tell. Sitting in cafés is another favourite pastime of mine. The two are deliciously combined with my latest blog post a guide to Church Cafés in London. Take a look, if I’ve missed any let me know and I’ll be sure to visit and then add them.
Happy Culturing
Catherine
