Hello
Welcome to Wednesday Wishes. Textiles, Yoko Ono, landscapes, Flaming June and a dirty filthy book are this week’s wishes. How can you resist a line up like that?
On Monday morning I caught the early train to Amsterdam. Once there I headed to Haarlem to visit the Frans Hals Museum. Frans lived and worked in Haarlem creating many of his works for the the City guilds and the museum has the largest collection of his work. Even though some of their paintings are currently in the the Rijksmuseum for the next few months the museum still has seventeen of his works on show. On Tuesday morning we took the 15 minute train journey from Haarlem to Amsterdam Centraal headed for the Frans Hals exhibition at the Rijksmuseum.
But a Frans Hals exhibition has just closed at the National Gallery I hear you cry. Yes it has and this exhibition is its close cousin. It has most of the same works but with a few additions and is displayed in an entirely different way. Whilst the National Gallery exhibition was arranged by time the Rijksmuseum has opted for a thematic approach. I have seen both shows and am amazed how different the two are. Frans Hals is one of exhibitons worth travelling for in 2024 … click on the button for more cultural travel inspiration.
Happy Culturing
