Hello
Welcome to Wednesday Wishes.
This weeks wishes feature intricate prints of London by Anne Desmet at the Guildhall Art Gallery, the Last Caravaggio at the National Gallery, George Baselitz at White Cube, Bermondsey and Ceramics at Olympia.
The National Gallery is 200 in May and has a whole host of celebrations planned. Jools Holland is kicking off the celebrations in style with an extra special National Gallery Late. Tickets are free and Friends have snapped up most of them but a new tranche will become available on Thursday 18 April. So get ready to apply, two tickets maximum per application.
Cosmic House in Notting Hill. It is essentially the manifesto for post modernism in a house. Terry Farrell created the house on a Cosmic theme. You can visit but you tickets always sell swiftly. This year Cosmic House have a new way of doing things, with tickets going on sale at noon, on the third Friday of every month for the next month. For April that is Friday 19 April, this Friday! If you miss out this month, set a reminder for May. Tickets are £25 for a tour or pay what you can for a self guided exploration.
Houghton Hall in Norfolk has an excellent collection of outdoor sculpture. Every year they play host to a superstar guest sculptor. This year it is Antony Gormley. Time Horizon has 100 life size sculptures buried according to the topography, so some are standing on the grass, other buried up to their necks. It should be excellent as the grounds at Houghton are incredible.
I admit to a bit of FOMO. My inbox is full of new openings at the Venice Biennale and my timeline is full of friends at press views in Venice. Anyway the 60th Venice Biennale opens officially on Sunday 20 April and runs until November. So plenty of time to visit. One of of exhibitions worth travelling for.
All that remains of of Alexander Pope’s idyllic country house on the banks of the Thames is the grotto. Hidden underneath a school the grotto has been restored and has just won a Civic Trust award. If you fancy discovering a piece of garden design history the grotto has a series of open days in May available to book on their website.
Where will you wander this week?
Happy Culturing
