Hello!
Welcome to Wednesday Wishes.
Tate Modern smells. Well the Magdalena Abakanowicz show at Tate Modern smells of sisal and sacking. It looks pretty extraordinary too. Other Wednesday Wishes this week optical illusions, designer gingerbread, giant paper peacock table decorations, another Lucian Freud exhibition and Christmas at the Dickens Museum.
Regular readers will know that I love a UNESCO heritage site and have spent many holiday in The Netherlands. Both of these are combined in my latest blog post a guide to visiting Dutch UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Not simply a list of interesting buildings, as a least three of them meander across the landscape of The Netherlands. One thing of which I am certain is that at some point Mr CW and I will have a holiday following the Lower Germanic Limes aka the northern frontier of the Roman Empire.
Another one of my loves is a Cultural Late. Christie’s has one coming up at the beginning of December that celebrates the art of craftsmanship. There will be talks and the opportunity to try your hand a gold work embroidery. Every thing is free (except the pay bar) but you do need to book.
Mr CW and I headed to see Marvellous at the new @sohoplace theatre at the weekend. We used a code for English Heritage members for cheap tickets. As we stepped out of the tube at Tottenham Court Road we realised that it is not just the the theatre that is new at foot of Centre Point. Giant screens wrap round the inside and outside of the Outernet complex and Now building. Adverts and immersive art installations alternate on the screens. What has been a space to scurry through as quickly as possible for all my time in London has become a place to stand a gawp. An incredible transformation. Have you been?
Happy Culturing
Catherine
