Hello
We are back from Austria just in time for the weather to break. This morning as this lands in your inbox I will be heading for train to take me to see Chanel at the V&A ad to check a brand new gallery in Marylebone. London Fashion Week starts at the weekend. Timed to perfection for the fashionistas in town three fabulous fashion exhibitions start this weekend. Chanel, REBEL at the Design Museum and JW Anderson On Foot at Offer Waterhouse. Book of the Week is Ruskin Park: Sylvia, Me and the BBC by Rory Cellan-Jones the story of a love affair, a single mum, the BBC and Rory.
This afternoon I will be heading over to 87 Hackford Road in Kennington to celebrate 150 years since Vincent Van Gogh wrote his first letter whilst resident at the address. Now it is called the Vincent van Gogh House, you can visit Wednesday - Sunday, midday to 6pm, tickets cost £7.50 and need to be booked before you arrive. Staying with Vincent, over in the Netherlands in Drenthe they are celebrating 140 years since Vincent came to live with his parents in the village with a special exhibition Travelling with Vincent at the Drents Museum.
One of my favourite cultural days out at the weekend is jaunt down to Ditchling for the Museum of Art+Craft. I’m plotting a visit soon to see their new exhibition Double Weave: Bourne and Allen’s Modernist Textiles. It takes a look at the duo who designed for Fortnum and Mason, Liberty and Heals as well for interiors of the first UK jet planes. Afterwards Mr CW and I will stride out over Ditchling Beacon to blow away the cobwebs.
One last thing … it is the last week of the London Open House Festival this weekend. Hundreds of buildings open for free.
Happy Culturing
Catherine
