Welcome to Wednesday Wishes.
My wings are clipped a little this week with a routine hospital visit. Before I was grounded I managed to see some superb animal illustrations and sounds at the the British Library and when I’m allowed out again I’m keen to see a stag that staggers and falls in response to nasty tweets, photos of the rich and famous with a rather fine tea room and the work from the artist behind the magnificent new staircase at Leighton House.
The wide open spaces of Houghton Hall are ideally suited to sculpture. In addition to the impressive permanent collection every summer the work of a different artist takes up residence. Sean Scully is this years artist and he has created a work especially for Houghton, Wall of Light created from locally sourced limestone. If you are heading East this summer make sure you include Houghton on the list.
A momentous week in the Cultural Wednesday household. The Cultural Teens will no longer be teenagers. From now on they will be the Cultural Young Men (CYM). It only seems like yesterday that they were teeny tiny babies, I’m not sure where the 20 years have gone.
Happy Culturing
Catherine
Hello!
Camping at Holkham sounds excellent and the perfect place to stay when visiting Houghton
I always look forward to the Houghton Hall exhibitions. We are camping at a pop up campsite in Holkham this year so looking forward to paying a visit to Houghton when we are there
