Hello!
Welcome to Wednesday Wishes.
This week Wellington and Women … have you heard the one about how his women friends clubbed together for a gargantuan statue of the Duke as Achilles, naked as the gods intended? Teeny, tiny works of art in South Kensington and beautiful flowers at the Saatchi Gallery.
Book of the Week gets its very own paragraph this week because Cultural Wednesday helped with the research process. Maisie Thomas, the author of the Railway Girls series asked me if I knew of a work of art featuring a dog that would have been on display in 1930s London. I immediately thought of a painting of Brizo the Otter Hound at my favourite gallery the Wallace Collection. A bit of digging, showed that he was on show at the relevant time and now Brizo takes a starring role in Hope for the Railway Girls.
Happy Culturing
