Hello!
Welcome to Wednesday Wishes.
The sun is shining and celebrations of my big zero birthday officially start this week. You will find me in assorted cultural venues with friends and family.
Yesterday I visited Tate Britain where I caught up with Sickert exhibiton, some really dark pictures, some lovely pictures and learnt a lot. It was also my first time seeing The Procession by Hew Locke in the Duveen Galleries, if you haven’t seen either yet both are well worth a visit. What bought me to Tate Britain was the press view of Cornelia Parker which is stunning from the first to last works. Flattened silverware, newspapers blowing in the House of Commons, an embroidered Magna Carta, a room made with poppy cutouts and photos taken using Rudolf Hess’s camera. Beautiful, thought provoking stuff.
Bury St Edmunds is celebrating 1,000 years since the formation of the Abbey of St Edmunds this year. Manuscripts from the Abbey scriptorium are on display in the Abbey at the moment until June 8. Usually the Illuminated Texts live in Pembroke College, Cambridge so a real treat to see them on home territory. Even better they are free to see.
Happy Culturing
Catherine
