Hello
Welcome to Wednesday Wishes.
Half term must be approaching as exhibition openings has reached fever pitch this week. Take a deep breath. This week St Martin’s in the Fields is being lit up inside and out, Orchids are in bloom at Kew, the Romans are coming at the British Museum, intricate clockwork from China will be at the Science Museum, Barbara Kruger is at the Serpentine and Entangled Pasts are being examined at the Royal Academy. Book of the Week looks at the relationship between Alexander Graham Bell, inventor of the telephone and a deaf woman.
Mr CW and I continued our pilgrimage to visit all the English CofE cathedrals with a visit to St Albans, England’s oldest continuous site of Christian worship. Whilst we were in St Albans we visited the Art Gallery to see a Rana Begum exhibition. She grew up in the city and this is a home going. I urge you to visit, St Albans is only 20 minutes from London by train, the exhibition is excellent and the Cathedral wonderful. AND the museum has an excellent tea room, you drink your beverage and nibble on cake in the old court room, I sat in the judges chair with my cuppa.
For Christmsas Mr CW gave me garden raised beds. Ever since I visited Chiswick House Kitchen Garden last year I have been whittering on about how now the twins climbing frame has gone we could grow vegetables in the space. Broad beans, onions, runner beans, carrots and courgettes are all on my list. Imagine my joy when an email popped into my inbox telling me that visits to the kitchen garden at Chiswick is now free. Have you been? Do you grow your own vegetables? What else should I plant?
Artangel are one of the most joyous art organisations that I know. They put extraordinary contemporary art into incredible locations, all for limited runs. Every single one of their installations has made me smile. Their latest project has just been announced and they need your help. The Hobby Cave created by Hetain Patel (a man who spent four months hand painted a suit jacket to look like Superman from techniques he learnt from YouTube) he wants to create a map of the UK Hobbies and a series of 13 exhibitions around the country featuring work created by dedicated enthusiasts. He would like you to register your hobby, send in photos and maybe have your work displayed. Take a look at the Hobby Cave website and submit your details.
Happy Culturing
