Hello
Culture in far flung climes has been my focus for the first few days of this week. I have been at the World Travel Market learning all about prehistoric UNESCO site in Menorca and taking part in a pesto making competition. Turning my focus back to London this week I am looking forward to Revolting Women at Tate Britain, Holbein and the Tudor Court at the Queen’s Gallery and the work of young photographers in the Taylor Wessing Prize at the National Portrait Gallery.
Exploring UNESCO world heritage sites is one of my favourite things to do. 30 years ago I visited Tunisia on what I thought would be a beach holiday and ended up being an exploration of two of the finest Roman sites I have ever seen and the fourth holiest city in the Muslim world. When Discover Tunisia asked me if I would like to tour six of the eight Tunisian UNESCO sites, yes was my immediate reply. You can read all about the incredible sites that include living breathing Medinas, the ruins of Carthage and the world’s only purely Punic archeological site.
Did you know that Jim Hendrik and Handel lived in the same house? Well 200 years apart, but still the same house. The house on Brook Street is now a museum. This Friday I will be heading to Handel and Hendrix in London for one of their Friday lates. I’m looking forward to hearing the violin played in the style of the 18th century and guitars played in psychedelic fashion.
My friend Massoumeh makes the most incredible jackets along with her mother and brother. They are having a pop up shop at Old Brompton Gallery, 238 Old Brompton Street this week, which will be open 9 - 12 November 10.30am - 7pm (11.30am - 5pm on Sunday). Perfect for Christmas … less than 50 days to go! Take a look at their Etsy page for a taster.
Happy Culturing
Catherine
