Hello and Happy New Year!
Since I last wrote we have been in Norfolk and Surrey with jaunts up to London with friends and family. In between all the turkey and mincepies I have been drawing up lists of exhibitions that I really want to see in 2024. So this week’s Wednesday Wishes looks a bit different with a round up of the ten exhibitions I am most looking forward to in London this year.
Spreading the net a bit further my eye was caught by several tempting exhibitions elsewhere in the UK. Perfect for a day trip or short jaunt. Top of my list is the reopening of Norwich Castle Keep. Yorkshire beckons with Tony Cragg on show at both Castle Howard and York Minster. I have never visited Castle Howard and so am really looking forward to this. Antony Gormley will be Houghton Hall in Norfolk and then there are a slew of exhibitions. Take a look at the full run down of my top 10 culturally inspiring UK destinations this year.
Looking even further afield into Europe. It is Biennale year in Venice, I have never been and am hopeful that this year will be the year. Mr CW and I are looking at our diaries and making plans. In Germany they are celebrating 250 years since the birth of Caspar David Friedrich with exhibitions in Berlin, Hamburg, Dresden and Greifswald. in Belgium they are marking 75 years since the death of James Ensor with a bevy of enticing exhibitions. In The Netherlands I am tempted by Jean Miró sculptures and Northern Impressionism. Rothko is in Paris and Chagall in Vienna.
Add into that, we also have a 60th birthday, a pair of 21st birthdays and graduation to celebrate. So many exciting possibilities. What are your cultural plans for 2024?
Happy Culturing
Catherine
