Hello
Welcome to Wednesday Wishes
All three of this week’s Wednesday Wishes are just a thirty minute walk away from each other. Start with coffee at Petiole the beautiful new cafe in Somerset House. Then check out Salt Cosmologies in the courtyard and the newly restored Salt Stair inside. Stroll over to the National Portrait Gallery for The Face Culture Shift. Another cultural cafe awaits you at the NPG. After refreshment head to Thaddaeus Ropac in Mayfair Ron Mueck’s En Garde. Whilst you sit in the cafés you could be reading The Café withNo Name by Robert Seethaler.
I love a ferry. From the tiny row boat that takes you across the river Blyth between Southwold and Walberswick right up to the car ferries that take you on holiday. For a long time ferries were the only way I ever left the UK. At the beginning of the month I travelled by train and ferry to The Netherlands via the Stena Harwich to Hook of Holland route, getting to the port by train. I have written a blog post all about what to expect on board … why not take a read.
Whilst I was in The Netherlands I staying in the Hotel New York. My room had a view of the brand new FENIX museum which is due to open in May. It will be the first art museum dedicated to the subject of migration. When I last saw it, it was surrounded by boarding which is all gone now. When completed it will jin the roster of Rotterdam’s amazing modern buildings. Tickets have gone on sale this week, I can’t wait to see inside and to climb that amazing spiral.
London Theatre Week has started, actually its more like London Theatre Fortnight and runs until 2 March. Tickets for more than 70 London shows, including some of the biggest names, are available at deep discounts. Take a look and see if there is anything you fancy.
The Liria Palace is Madrid’s largest private residence. It is stuffed full of historic art works. From now until the end of July works by Goya, Valzquez and Zurbaran will be rubbing shoulders with works by Joana Vasconeles. Flamboyant, as the exhibition is called, makes me want to hop on a plane to Madrid right now. One of my European Exhibitions Worth Travelling For.
