Hello
Back in London and making up for lost time visiting museums and galleries. So many new and exciting exhibitions are opening up at the moment. In the order that I have seen/will see them … Sarah Lucas Happy at Tate Britain, Rubens and Women at the Dulwich Picture Gallery, Frans Hals at the National Gallery, Spies, Lies and Deception at the Imperial War Museum, Claudette Johnson at the Courtauld, Treasures of Gold and Silver Wire at the Guildhall Gallery and Fabrics of Democracy at the Fashion and Textile Museum. Quite a list, I will be a blur this week and may not get to Fabrics of Democracy if the train strike goes ahead.
Outside London the Turner Prize shortlist is unveiled at the Towner Eastbourne in Eastbourne today. The Towner is one of my favourite seaside galleries with a permanent collection that features Eric Ravillious and a facade that features a Lothar Gotz mural. Well worth a weekend jaunt.
Chiswick House and Gardens has been one of my big discoveries this year, yes I know they’ve been there for centuries. The house is sleeping now for the summer but the excellent kitchen garden remains open. They have some special family gardening days on the Wednesday and Friday of half term which are free but need booking. If you have a young person, click on the link and book as they are bound to get snapped up quickly.
Happy Culturing
