Welcome to Wednesday Wishes.
Hot, hot, hot. Summer is definitely here now. The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition has opened. Art in Mayfair is being celebrated with flags, a sculpture trail and exhibitions, meanwhile over in Whitechapel migration and super soft tactile textiles star in exhibitions. Head south to the Newport Street Gallery for glowing stained glass and to Tate Modern for the ongoing conversation between photography and painting. Book of the Week delves back to Arthurian legend with a retelling of Morgan le Fay’s story.
On your marks. Tickets go on sale today at 10am for tours of Big Ben. Demand is expected to be high. So high that the link you need to click is not yet there. However you will find it here. If you miss out this time don’t worry, new tickets will be made available on the second Wednesday of every month at 10am. Tours cost £25 for adults and £10 for children. Children must be at least 11 and everyone on the tour needs to feel comfortable climbing the 334 steps up the Elizabeth Tower. If you fancy visiting the rest of the Houses of Parliament take a look at my blog post about our visit inside the Palace of Westminster.
My Art Fund card is one of the most used cards in my wallet. Well it used to be called the Art Fund card now it is called the National Art Pass, but old habits die hard. It does what it says on the tin and gets me into countless museums for free and half price into many more. That includes many of the exhibitions at the big London museums. Art Fund have an offer on until June 30th. You can buy a three month card for £15 to see if you like the card and think that it is value for money. Recently I have used my pass to get into Kensington Palace half price and the Yorkshire Sculpture Park for free which would have cost saved me £21.70.
Happy Culturing
