Hello!
Welcome to Wednesday Wishes.
Just as Southern Rail gets its act together the Underground stops working. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a journey along the Central Line mid morning on Wednesday to flit between Kensington Palace and the Barbican.
Wednesday Wishes this week has pop up opera for free at St Pancras station, Royals on Camera at Kensington Palace, Postwar Modern art at the Barbican and getting to know the real person behind Whistler’s Woman in White at the Royal Academy. I have a night at the Bridge Theatre planned and on my journeys I’ve been reading 1922: Scenes from a Turbulent Year by Nick Rennison, really , really interesting but not balm for the soul as 2022 looks to be shaping up as a game-changer.
Regular readers will know that I write an annual round up of exhibitions worth travelling for both in the UK and abroad. Last Friday I took my own advice and headed off to Oxford to meet up with a friend and see North Sea Crossings: Anglo Dutch Books and Adventures with Reynard the Fox at the Bodelian. What an excellent exhibition, dedicated to books and maps AND free. Afterwards we sat outside on the sun trap roof terrace of the Ashmolean for lunch. Perfect day.
Happy Culturing
Catherine
