Hello
Welcome to Wednesday Wishes
All of this week’s Wednesday Wishes are free to visit. Guiseppe Penone: The Power of Trees at the Serpentine, MI5: Official Secrets at the National Archives, 1880 THAT at the welcome Collection andSouth Asian art at the SOAS gallery. Along the way I will be seeking out hidden corners with the help of this week’s book London: The Hidden Corners for Curious Wanderers by Jack Chesher.
Did you know that you can go inside the Wellington Arch? Even better that from the top you can peek into the gardens of Buckingham Palace? I recently joined CSSC, one of the membership perks is free admission into English Heritage properties. With my new pass in my pocket I got off the bus at Hyde Park Corner and revisited the arch. Afterwards I had a coffee over the road in the cafe located in the Hyde Park gate house.
One of my favourite places to visit just outside London is the Henry Moore Studios and Gardens just outside Bishops Stortford. They are reopening after their winter hibernation today. Encounters is this years theme. People Henry Moore met, music he heard, things he saw, books he read and the work he produced in response to those encounters.
📆 Dates for your Diary
Cosmic House in Notting Hill is extraordinary. It was the home of Maggie and Charles Jencks and a physical manifesto Post Modern architecture. Visiting the Cosmic House takes careful planning as tickets are limited. The latest tranche goes on sale at midday this Friday via the Cosmic House website.
Did you see King Charles’ Christmas broadcast? He delivered it from the glittering Fitzrovia Chapel. Now the Chapel has a new organ and to celebrate it has a Baroque concert on 22 April. Tickets cost £10 which includes a welcome drink and are available via the Fitzrovia Chapel website.
