Hello!
Welcome to February and Wednesday Wishes. This week St Martin in the Fields is illuminated inside and out with the spectacular Space, the Universe and Everything son-et-lumiere. Orchids are in full bloom at Kew Gardens. Photographs from the Frontline in Ukraine at the Imperial War Museum. Posh Cloths from Grayson Perry at Victoria Miro. Read The Heroines by Laura Shepperson along the way. Finally, do have a donkey that you could lend to an opera company?
Some extras not on the blog. I love my sewing machines, yes plural and I covet an overlocker. Did you know that there is a Sewing Machine Museum? Well there is and it is in Balham. It is only open once a month and this Saturday is the day. Sewing machine heaven with at least 600 machines on display, including one given to Queen Victoria’s daughter as a wedding present … do you think she ever used it? Free to visit.
The utterly fabulous Leighton House has a pay what you want policy on the first Monday of every month between 10am and 1pm and that’s this Monday. Just round the corner from Leighton House booking has opened for a major Ai Weiwei exhibition at the Design Museum that opens in April. Whilst you’re thinking ahead booking is now open for Rose starring Maureen Lipman which will have a limited run at the Ambassador’s Theatre starting in May.
Wednesday Lates are back at Two Temple Place this February. You can take a look at their latest exhibition and gawp at the amazing interior with a drink in hand.
Talking of making plans, just in case you hadn’t heard, there’s going to be a Coronation in London in May. You need to be over 70 to have even been alive for the last one, let alone remember it. If you are planning to take part, whether by visiting London to see the preparations, have a street party or just watch on TV I have written a handy guide called Everything you need to know about the Coronation. I’ll be updating it as new exciting nuggets become available. It is not often that we get to book a date with history.
Happy Culturing
