Hello!
Welcome to Wednesday Wishes.
Visiting the Sir John Soane’s Museum just got a little bit more exciting as some of the delicate drawings usually hidden away are on display. Elsewhere Bacon’s first ever Pope painting is on show at Gagosian for free, the British Museum has prints ancient and modern also for free. East Anglia beckons with a new huge free Hockney exhibition spread across both the Fitzwilliam Museum and Heong Gallery in Cambridge.
Mr CW and I have made a start on our promise to each other to visit all of the Anglican cathedrals, as defined by the the Church of England. Our ground rules, for those that are interested, are that no previous visits count and nor do solo visits. As we make our way around the country we will take in other interesting sites of worship, so if you have a favourite let us know. Guildford is Mr CW’s home Cathedral and so he had visited many times, I had previously only driving past it on the A3. Outside it looks quite dark and dour but inside it is all light, space and calm.
On the way home we visited Waverley Abbey, the first Cistercian establishment in the country. Waverley is in a loop of River Wey and quite prone to flooding, you’d have thought that the monks would have opted for a drier spot. There is a blog post in the works about our odyssey but I still need to work out the format!
Happy Culturing

Love Guildford cathedral. We watched it being built as children than would go to sing with our choir
