Hello
Welcome to Wednesday Wishes.
Mr CW and I have just got back from a long weekend in Marrakesh. We were guests of Jet2 and had an excellent time … there will be a blog post soon. Our jaunt to Morocco added to the fact that London’s musueums and galleries are still clearing up after Christmas and not yet ready with shiny new exhibitions means that Wednesday Wishes on the blog is still a run down of the Top 10 exhibitions that I want to see in London this year.
Between Christmas and New Year my friend Janet and I headed to the Lightroom just north of Coal Drops Yard. We were there to see Vogue: Inventing the Runway. It was my first time visiting this relatively new venue. It is like standing inside the television as images are projected all around you. Vogue: Inventing the Runway tells the story of fashion shows, how they began and what they have become. Cate Blanchett narrates, what is really a very lavish documentary on a huge screen.
Luke Jerram is known for his huge scale installations of the Moon, Earth and Mars. Now he is adding the Sun to his portfolio. Helios will make its debut in the Painted Hall at the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich on January 25th. You can book tickets online now, even better your ticket becomes annual pass enabling you to visit the Painted Hall as often as you like for a year.
If re-vamping your interiors is on your New Year to do list then the the Decorative Fair is for you. Based in a huge tent in Battersea Gardens the fair has many stalls offering antique and vintage wares. Prices range from affordable to HOW MUCH! I always come away coveting something. Anyway they fair is on from 21 - 26 January, tickets are £24 on the first day and £12 on the others.
Over at the Business Design Centre in Islington the London Art Fair is the place to go to find contemporary art to adorn your house. I first visited in 1989 and bitterly regret not buying a painting that was on the edge of affordability. Tickets start at £19 and the fair runs from 22 -26 January.
Heading off for a shot of winter sun had never really appealed to me until Mr CW and I visited Palma a couple of years ago. Now I am a convert to mood lifting properties of a short dose of sun in the depths of winter. For inspiration, until I have written my Marrakesh post here is a link to our jaunt for art, culture and sunshine in Palma de Mallorca.
As ever, if you liked this newsletter a quick click on the ❤️ makes me happy. If you really, really like it … how about telling your friends.
Happy Culturing
