Hello
Welcome to Wednesday Wishes.
This weeks wishes feature the Brutalist facade of the Barbican clad in purple cloth, the fearsome weapons and golden throne of Ranjit Singh, London Pictures fro Gilbert and George and the first solo London Yinka Shonibare CBE show for 20 years.
Harewood House, home to the Earl of Harewood was the nearest stately home to my Grandparents house. We visited often and it remains to me the epitome of what a stately home should be. We will be visiting later this month to see Colours Uncovered which see items from the collection at Harewood looked at with an eye to colour. Not just art historians looking but others including horticulturists and designers.
A couple of ticket alerts. The east wing of Buckingham Palace, that’s the rooms behind the balcony, are to be open to the public for the first time this summer. Tickets are now on sale, you have to buy a ticket to see the State Rooms, so it will be a pricey day out. Less pricey. Tickets have gone on sale for the Idler Festival, a weekend of talks, comedy, music and workshops in the gardens of Fenton House in Hampstead
Earlier this year I went to Amsterdam to see the Frans Hals exhibition at the Rijksmuseum. I didn’t stay in Amsterdam but rather Haarlem, just a short train ride away and home to Frans Hals. Over Easter I have written a blog post about why staying I Haarlem a good alternative to staying in expensive, crowded central Amsterdam.
Happy Culturing
