Welcome to Wednesday Wishes.
This week the summer opening of Buckingham Palace State Rooms, roof top art on top of Temple Tube, delve into the archives of architects Herzog & de Meuron at the Royal Academy, see the paintings Turner made on his holiday to Italy and see photos of artists at work. Book of the Week is actually six books, the Palliser novels by Anthony Trollope.
Last week I went to Rochester to see my friend Lois. She has been telling about the wonderful Restoration House all summer and finally I got to visit. The house got its name when Charles II stayed here on return to England after his Restoration. The current owners have lovingly restored the house and gardens. The house is filled with period furniture. You can visit on summer Thursday and Fridays, with interior photography allowed on Friday mornings only. The M25 traffic held me up and I arrived too late … will just have to go back again.
Episode of The Exhibitionists is live. This week Vyki and talk about our favourite places to see sculpture outside in the UK. Take a listen and discover why I need to stow away on Vyki’s summer holiday.
An exhibition has popped into my inbox that ticks many boxes for me. It involves textiles, in in the City of London and is free. To Boldly Sew: Textile Art by Alice Kettle can be seen at two locations 99 Bishopgate and 30 Fenchurch Street. It will be open daily until September 29th. If you go let me know what its like. If I go first, then I’ll report back too.
Happy Culturing
