Hello
Welcome to Wednesday Wishes.
This weeks wishes are all free (except the book, of course). Storyteller at the Imperial War Museum has photographs of war, the Army museum is celebrating Shakespeare’s birthday with a look at his depictions of war, Thaddaeus Ropac has Robert Rauschenberg ROCI and the Science Gallery looks at Dementia. Read all about it over on the blog,
This week I am writing to you from Chemnitz in Germany, which will be European capital of culture next year. Chemnitz itself, was Karl Marx Stadt in the communist era and has been an important manufacturing town for 200 years. I have also been exploring the startling pretty towns Görlitz, Bautzen, Kamenz and Dresden. When I get home I will share more pictures and information about Saxony.
Meanwhile in London. A celebration of Taiwanese culture is in full swing. The Taiwan in London Festival has art, music, dance, theatre from the island. Take a look programme and see what you fancy.
A date for your diary. Vivienne Westwood’s personal collection is to go on sale at Christies with proceeds going to a selection of charities of her choosing. The fabulous frocks (and shoes and jewellery) will be on show at Christies before the auction on 14 - 24 June. Free to visit.
Over in Belgium the Beaufort Triennial has started. If I had to have a favourite Triennial it would be this one. Excellent outdoor sculptures by the seaside that you can explore on the world’s longest tramline. What’s not to like. Fantastic chips as well. Take a look at my post about the Belgian coast and maybe plan a weekend away.
Where will you wander this week?
Happy Culturing
Catherine
